Frontinus – the name

The name of our company derives from the name of a Roman senator, Sextus Julius Frontinus.

Frontinus was appointed curator aquarum (water commissioner, responsible for the supply of water to Rome via aquaducts). In this capacity he wrote De Aquaeductus Urbis Romae, which is widely recognised as the first official report of a survey of engineering works.

Frontinus studied the maintenance and distribution of water to ensure that water of the desired quality reached its destination as efficiently as possible.

In combining an interest in engineering, research, the written word, and sustainability, Frontinus symbolises perfectly the concerns of our business.
